The National Assembly should proceed with one of its key functions—the adoption of the 2026 state budget, President Iliana Iotova said in an address to MPs during the inaugural sitting of the 52nd National Assembly. According to President Iotova, the extension of the 2025 state budget is one of the clearest manifestations of impasse of the time past. ''Any further delay now dooms citizens, businesses, municipalities, and the institutions to stagnation and unpredictability'', Iliana Iotova added.

“The main goal for all of us is to address inequality and the lack of justice. These are not measured only by income—they also mean education, accessible healthcare, equal starting opportunities, and laws that apply equally to everyone. The state must be a protector, not an observer. It must care for every Bulgarian household. The authorities should not leave people alone against prices and bills”, President Iotova said.

“We have much to offer for the security of the external borders, the development of the Western Balkans, and as a country that can become a hub of the economy of the future. The political framework of our foreign policy is set by you—let it be wise, weighty, but also strong in character. Fortune favours the brave”, President Iotova said.
