One of the largest solar parks in Bulgaria was opened in Silistra, BNR correspondent Nezabravka Kirova reported. It is located on the site of the former airport near the village of Polkovnik Lambrinovo.
The St. George park covers 165 hectares, has 400 thousand panels and a capacity of 225 megawatts and will produce electricity equal to nearly 13% of the current solar production in the country. “In addition, we have one of the largest batteries for storing electricity, which allows us to supply electricity not only when there is sunshine,” said Martin Langham, chief operating officer of the Czech-based energy company Resolve Energy.
About 20 people are expected to be involved in the maintenance and management of the systems. A training academy for solar specialists from the region has also been established.

Martin Langham stressed that the solar park does not pose a risk to the local community and the environment, as the technology does not have a negative impact, but converts solar energy into electricity. He added that the project will create employment and professional development opportunities for people in the area.
