The Bulgarian Retail Association is calling for urgent changes to the administrative procedures for bringing in workers from non-EU countries. According to the association’s statement, these procedures currently take between 6 and 9 months, which it considers unacceptable and leading to financial losses for businesses. They also warn that this creates a risk of corrupt practices, BTA reports.
The association is also calling for an increase or removal of quotas for hiring workers from third countries in sectors with a proven labor shortage, for the full digitalization of the procedures, and stricter control over administrative processing deadlines. Other demands include the acceptance of electronic apostilles and the opening of a Bulgarian consular office in Nepal.
“The business sector does not want privileges, but functioning institutions,” the association said.
