Bulgarian players score five wins in Round 9 of the European Chess Championship

Bulgarian chess players recorded five wins, one draw and one loss in the ninth round of the European Women’s Individual Chess Championship in the Georgian city of Batumi. Bulgaria’s best-performing players, Nurgyul Salimova and Nadya Toncheva, are among the top 15 in the standings with two rounds remaining.
Nurgyul Salimova shares third place and is just half a point off the top. In her latest game, Salimova defeated Slovenia’s Laura Unuk with the black pieces.
Nadya Toncheva, currently 14th, also won with the black pieces against Ukraine’s Liudmyla Ivanytska.
Beloslava Krasteva, Gergana Peycheva and Angelika Nenova also won their games. Ahead of the penultimate, tenth round, Ukraine’s Anastasiia Hnatyshyn and Spain’s Sabrina Vega are in the lead with 7.5 points each.
