Bulgaria reacted sharply to an arson attack on two diplomatic vehicles in Skopje, summoning North Macedonia's charge d'affaires in Sofia to the Foreign Ministry. Deputy Foreign Minister Hristo Polendakov described the incident as an unprecedented and demonstrative act of aggression that had endangered human lives.
Earlier, President Iliana Iotova also condemned the attack as a direct assault on the Bulgarian state. Sofia noted the swift arrest by North Macedonian authorities of a 44-year-old suspect, but called for an effective investigation and prosecution. The Foreign Ministry said attempts to intimidate Bulgarians in North Macedonia were unacceptable and that the Bulgarian state would respond using all available mechanisms.
