The European Union has strongly condemned the arson attack targeting diplomatic vehicles of the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje on June 15, the EU Delegation to North Macedonia said on Facebook. "We welcome the swift arrest of the suspect and expect those responsible to be brought to justice. Constructive cooperation between North Macedonia and Bulgaria should continue", the post reads. The attack was also condemned by the French and German embassies in North Macedonia, BGNES reported.

In a Facebook post, the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje called for border crossings between Bulgaria and North Macedonia not to be blocked. Bulgaria’s Ambassador in Skopje Zhelyazko Radukov thanked Bulgarian institutions, organizations, and citizens for their support of the diplomatic mission “under the current particularly difficult circumstances.”
According to the embassy, Bulgaria’s national interest requires the country to remain open to its southwestern neighbors by encouraging cultural exchange, contacts between divided families, as well as economic cooperation and trade. “This is the best way to oppose hatred”, the diplomatic mission stated.
