Bulgaria's Constitutional Court has ruled unconstitutional a decision by the 51st National Assembly that required the caretaker government led by Andrey Gyurov to submit to parliament a bill ratifying Bulgaria's accession to the Gaza Peace Board, an initiative established by US President Donald Trump.

Referring to its established case law, all 12 constitutional judges unanimously stated that, under the principle of the separation of powers, parliament may not, through its decisions, encroach upon the constitutional powers of other state institutions or intervene without limits in every sphere of public administration.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced Bulgaria's intention to join the US-sponsored Gaza Peace Board on January 22. Under Bulgaria's Constitution, the agreement signed by the prime minister can only enter into force after it has been ratified by the National Assembly.
