Wine and seasonal cuisine will help establish Sofia as a culinary destination

The Sofia Municipality has launched an ambitious initiative to position the Bulgarian capital as a recognised gastronomic destination on Europe's culinary map, the municipal press office announced.

The strategy will be coordinated by the municipal enterprise Tourism together with an expert Culinary Council. Its first step will be a working meeting with representatives of the restaurant industry and professional associations to present recommendations following an audit conducted by an independent consulting company.

The plan, which runs through the end of 2027, envisages the introduction of unified service standards, a stronger focus on Bulgarian wines, seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients, and targeted improvements to the urban environment and visitor experience.

The initiative forms part of the long-term development strategy for the Visit Sofia brand.
