Bulgaria and Italy to mark the 90th anniversary of Nicola Ghiuselev's birth

A series of events in Bulgaria and abroad will commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of world-renowned Bulgarian operatic bass Nicola Ghiuselev, which falls on 17 August, the Nicola Ghiuselev Foundation has announced.
The commemorative programme includes events in both Bulgaria and Italy. On 8 September, in his hometown of Pavlikeni, a memorial plaque bearing Ghiuselev's likeness will be unveiled on the façade of the town's History Museum. The programme will also feature an exhibition of his paintings, a documentary about his life, and the presentation of a new monograph dedicated to the celebrated opera singer.

Later in September, the book will be presented during the Menotti Art Festival, while a series of concerts, exhibitions and film screenings will take place at the Bulgarian Embassy and the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Rome.
In October, the programme will continue with a concert, exhibition and book presentation in Parma as part of the Giuseppe Verdi Festival, as well as a commemorative event at the Teatro Regio di Parma. On 28 October, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will host a concert and exhibition dedicated to the anniversary, BTA reported.

The highlight of the commemorations will take place on 17 November at the Sofia Opera and Ballet, where the Sixth Nicola Ghiuselev International Award will be presented to young performers in the fields of opera and visual arts. During the same month, the Bulgarian National Radio will release a new album featuring recordings by the legendary bass.
By mid-December, a monument to Nicola Ghiuselev is also expected to be completed in Nicola Ghiuselev Square in Sofia.
The organisers added that the dates for commemorative events in Milan, Vienna, Paris, Rome, and at other Bulgarian opera houses are yet to be confirmed.
