Bulgarian athlete Alexandra Nacheva won the bronze medal in the triple jump on the fourth day of the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, England.
The gold medal went to Darya Derkach, the Ukrainian-born athlete competing for Italy, with a jump of 14.60 meters. Belgium’s Saliah Gies finished second with 14.46 meters.
Nacheva, who turns 25 next week, jumped 14.40 meters on her second attempt, with a following wind of 3.4 m/s, securing third place.
It was her only successful jump of the competition. She took maximum risks on her remaining attempts but was unable to improve her mark.
The medal is Nacheva’s first at a major senior competition. In 2018, she became champion at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires and world under-20 champion in Tampere.
Nacheva also won Bulgaria’s second medal at the Birmingham European Championships, following Bozhidar Saraboyukov’s bronze in the men’s long jump two days earlier.
