Bulgaria’s annual inflation accelerated to 5.1% in August from 4.4% in July, according to Eurostat’s preliminary estimate based on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).
Bulgaria thus remains among the eurozone countries with the highest inflation, while the average rate across the currency area rose to 3.3% from 2.9% a month earlier, BTA reported.
Only Lithuania and Cyprus recorded higher annual inflation in August, at 5.8% and 5.2% respectively. Bulgaria was followed by Spain at 4.5% and Belgium at 4.2%.
According to Eurostat’s preliminary estimate, the acceleration in eurozone inflation was driven mainly by energy.
