The summit on connectivity that Bulgaria will host is an expression of confidence in the Bulgarian government, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at the beginning of a cabinet meeting.
A day earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the initiative for intercontinental connectivity and named Bulgaria as the host of the future summit that will launch its implementation, Radev said. He noted that, despite attempts by certain domestic circles to suggest that the government’s foreign policy would leave Bulgaria on the periphery of Europe, the country is not isolated. Instead, it is at the centre of the political debate, and not as an observer, but as a country generating decisions of strategic significance, the Prime Minister stressed.
“Bulgaria is Europe’s gateway to connectivity, and I believe it will successfully host the summit,” European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said in Strasbourg, BTA reported. She added that €12 billion had been earmarked for the connectivity programme and that funding would also be included in the EU’s next budget.
