Some 58% of Bulgarians have no money set aside for unexpected expenses, while only one in 10 could manage for more than six months without an income, according to a nationally representative survey conducted by polling agency Trend.
The survey, the third in a series commissioned jointly by Finance Academy and UBB Asset Management, found that 67% of respondents do not save money and 91% do not invest. Nearly half of Bulgarians (49%) describe their standard of living as average, with the proportion higher among people under 60.
Respondents were far more likely to associate an improvement in their standard of living with earning additional income than with saving or investing money they already have.
