“The agriculture sector has nothing against free trade, and we operate within free trade,” Radostina Zhekova, Chairwoman of the Dobrudzha Grain Producers’ Union, told BNR. She is in Strasbourg taking part in a large Europe-wide protest against the EU-Mercosur deal.
“90% of the corn and soy in Mercosur countries is genetically modified. Europe, of course, has regulations allowing GMO soy to be used in animal feed, but the cultivation of GMOs is prohibited”, Radostina Zhekova said.

According to Radostina Zhekova, no one knows how the decision to support this agreement was made on the Bulgarian side.
She also commented the topic of creating a future agricultural political party: “We are tired of explaining to people who have nothing to do with the sector what the agriculture sector looks like and what it needs. We are discussing the topic of forming an agricultural party”, said Radostina Zhekova.
