The morning brought relief for everyone seeking an end to the conflict in the Middle East. This was how Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nadezhda Neynsky commented to BNT on the announced two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. She noted that the sustainability of the ceasefire will depend on whether Iran abandons the development of a nuclear bomb, provides sufficient guarantees that enriched uranium will not be used for nuclear weapons, halts attacks on Gulf states, and reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Foreign Minister Neynsky, the UN Security Council’s rejected resolution calling for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz shows that global conflicts are interconnected. At this stage, the EU is managing to find the most appropriate solutions regarding the war in Iran, added Minister Neynsky.
“All efforts of the Bulgarian government are aimed at providing maximum security guarantees for Bulgaria”, the country’s top diplomat said. According to Nadezhda Neynsky, these guarantees are grounded in the country’s policies and its membership in the EU and NATO.
