The Ministry of Environment and Water has begun inspections of water levels in reservoirs and riverbeds due to expected heavy rainfall. The aim is to prevent the risk of flooding and ensure public safety. Authorities are inspecting potentially high-risk areas and monitoring the condition and capacity of riverbeds, as well as the operation and available storage volumes of major and significant reservoirs.

According to Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Atanas Kostadinov, reservoirs in Bulgaria currently have good water levels, but the main issue is water consumption and losses. He stressed that particular attention should be paid to water supply and sewerage systems, citing the water utility company in Yambol as an example, which reports average water losses of over 70%.
