Cleanup operations continue in the flooded homes and streets in the village of Ticha near Kotel, where the Cherna River overflowed on June 4 following heavy rainfall. Around 30 houses have been affected.
“The water is now receding, but everything is covered in mud. There are many drowned animals and large amounts of debris”, Sliven District Governor Mihail Kasherov told Bulgarian National Radio. The Kotel–Omurtag road has already been reopened. Military personnel, firefighters and forestry workers will assist in clearing the damage caused by the natural disaster, Bulgarian National Television reported.

“We are partly to blame because we have not cleaned the ravines, but we do not have the funds”, Medovets village mayor Mustafa Ismail said on Nova TV following the heavy rains that caused serious problems in the Varna region. In his words, there are no injured or stranded people, but the material damage is significant.
