Bulgaria's Ministry of Interior is working to identify neo-Nazi groups in the country, as well as individuals who have been harassing citizens for years without sufficient action being taken against them, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said in an interview with bTV. He cited a group in Varna as an example, saying he had warned about it in 2023, yet it had been allowed to continue its activities. After the current government took office, active measures were taken and the group was dismantled, the minister said.

Ivan Demerdzhiev also said that a program is being developed to prevent violence and work with young people in schools, with the aim of identifying signs of violence and aggression at an early stage. The minister added that the effectiveness of investigations also depends on cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office, and that judicial reform is necessary so that law-enforcement institutions can work in coordination.

The Ministry of Interior is also working on numerous investigations involving representatives of oligarchic circles in order to stop the leakage of public funds, the minister said. He was referring to flights involving DPS leader Delyan Peevski, investigations into circles around former PM Boyko Borissov, road repairs, and the installation of guardrails.
