Bulgarian Parliament adopts new mechanism for the country's minimum wage

The Bulgarian Parliament has adopted a new mechanism for determining Bulgaria’s minimum wage. Its level will now take into account the purchasing power of the minimum wage, with consideration given to the cost of living, the overall level and distribution of wages, the rate of wage growth, and long-term trends in labour productivity in the country.

Every three years, the adequacy of the minimum wage will be assessed against two reference values: 60% of the gross median wage and the cost of living.

The new mechanism replaces the previous automatic link between the minimum wage and 50% of the average gross wage over the preceding 12-month period.
