A coordination mechanism between Bulgaria, Romania and Türkiye will be proposed to enable a faster response to situations affecting security in the Black Sea region, Bulgaria's Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov told journalists ahead of the start of a trilateral meeting in Sofia with his Turkish counterpart Yaşar Güler and Romanian counterpart Ștefan Radu-Oprea. The talks focus on security and defence in the Black Sea region, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported.

Today, the Council of Ministers is expected to make decisions on two memorandums: one on Bulgaria’s participation in a project to counter low-altitude threats, including drones, and another on the acquisition of MICA surface-to-air missiles for Bulgarian patrol vessels.

Stoyanov also reported that the cargo ship Khoryv, which capsized following a military attack, is drifting towards and entering Bulgarian territorial waters. The Bulgarian Navy and the Ministry of Transport are monitoring the situation and are ready to respond if necessary. A navigational warning has been issued to vessels in the area.
