The Eurogull, an eye-catching stilt puppet, could become a symbol of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, which will be held in Bulgaria's coastal city Burgas. The idea comes from the State Puppet Theatre in Burgas and is inspired by one of the city’s most recognizable symbols.
“In our view, the most suitable choice is the seagull because it is free-spirited, colorful, artistic, and an inseparable part of the spirit of Burgas. And its unmistakable ‘musical’ voice is a sound we are all accustomed to - a part of our everyday lives and a true sonic trademark of the city,” the theatre said. Its puppet is already familiar to audiences from the street performance Burgas Seagulls.
The proposal has also attracted attention outside Bulgaria, with photos of Eurogull already appearing on various international platforms.
“I’m biased, and I think everything connected with Burgas is wonderful and beautiful, and I find the seagulls very beautiful. One of the international correspondents even called to ask what this mythical creature in Burgas’s coat of arms was - a lion with a fish tail. It turned out that this had also made an impression, so it’s time for us to present it. I really like it; it’s very beautiful and very charming,” Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov commented.
